Wonderland is the first production of the Broadway Genesis Project, an initiative by the Straz Center to encourage new work that might tour or go to Broadway. It's the first time the Straz Center has produced a show of this size and importance. "It's been a thrilling process," said Judy Lisi, president and CEO of the Straz Center. "We've been privileged to work with Wonderland as it has developed from a concept to a script to a show. And we've been right there every step of the way." Lisi said the Straz Center could produce other works, but that the Broadway Genesis Project also will involve offering space, staff and other resources to producers who wish to workshop or develop new shows outside of New York. "Broadway is an important part of what we do here at the Straz Center," Lisi said. "We started this initiative so we could become an incubator for important new work." Wonderland will open at the Marriott Marquis Theatre on April 17, 2011, when it leaves Tampa.
